In the hum-drum of life the universe and everything I wonder why I follow a strict vegetarian diet (Vegan). I am not a militant Vegan I make the choices I do for my own consciences’ sake. I became a vegetarian 4 years ago because of YouTube. I watched a number of videos about the food industry and decided that
“Nothing should die so I can live”
I have received incredulous comments from many people in the main from people of faith especially Christians. Objections are usually related to accepting hospitality, being an evangelist and the permission given in Acts to eat ALL animals. It surely was confusing for people in Cambodia when I lived there but when I told them I ate ‘like’ a strict Buddhist (they eat only a plant-based diet) they understood and accepted my choice. Unchurched people are more confused by the choice and find it difficult to understand why I would not allow myself to eat meat.
More and more I felt convicted by eating dairy and shellfish/prawns. But I continued to eat dairy because I enjoyed it so much. Nothing better than a bowl of ice-cream after a long cycle or a plater of cheese and cracker to finish off the day, although I knew what I ate was at the expense of and caused suffering to cows and chickens. Around 3 months ago I decided to only eat plant-based foods with a new motto:
“Nothing will suffer so I can live”
I felt my enjoyment of certain foods did not justify the suffering causes to the animals involved in the process of producing them. I have struggled with this decision over the last few weeks and the dairy goodies in the family fridge have been a real temptation! I bumped into the video below today…
“Such evidence (in the video) makes a choice to only eat plant-based foods compelling!”

been a vegatarian most of my life, maybe i should become fully vegan, couldnt watch the video all the way through, these things upset me for ages
I wish I had made the shift to strict vegetarianism sooner. Wish I would say I had been a vegetarian for longer. Well done at sticking at it for the long haul, you’ll never regret making the shift to vegan diet.
